Reactive dog support from PhD qualifed behaviourist in Deal, Kent

Do you dread walking your reactive or fearful dog?

Do you find yourself avoiding busy places, crossing the road when another dog or person appears, or only walking at quiet times because you're worried your dog might bark, lunge or lose control?

If so, I want you to know one thing...You are not alone

One of the saddest things I hear from owners of reactive dogs is, "I feel like I've failed."

They look around and see other dogs calmly walking through town, relaxing outside cafés or passing others without a second glance. It's easy to believe everyone else's dog is "normal" and that you're the only one struggling.

But here's what you don't realise.

Reactivity is incredibly common. It's the most common reason people reach out for my help as a behaviourist.

Most reactive dog parents avoid busy places altogether because they're worried about being judged. They walk early in the morning, late at night, or choose quiet routes where they hope not to meet anyone. That's why it can feel like you're the only one.

Behaviour is influenced by many factors, including genetics, early development, learning experiences and even underlying pain or illness. Having a reactive dog does not mean you've failed.

The good news is that behaviour can change.

With the right support, kind and evidence-based training, many dogs and their caregivers learn to feel calmer, more confident, and enjoy walks again.

If your walks have become something you dread, please don't struggle alone. I'd be happy to help you understand what's driving your dog's behaviour and work with you to develop a plan that's tailored to you and your dog.

How can we help?

If you’re dealing with a complex issue such as reactivity, fear or the effects of a traumatic event, Dr Rebecca Hassall offers an in-depth, tailored approach, as well as consistent guidance and support needed to achieve long-term change. This approach ensures we treat not just the behaviour itself, but the underlying causes driving it. We support a wide range of challenges, including;

  • reactivity

  • aggression

  • phobias

  • separation issues

  • barking

  • destructive and compulsive behaviours

How It Works

Dr Rebecca will begin with an in-depth consultation, usually carried out in your home, where we take the time to fully understand your dog, their history, environment, and the challenges you’re facing. This allows us to build a complete picture of what’s going on.

Following this, we create a detailed, personalised behaviour plan tailored to your dog and your lifestyle, designed to manage and improve the issue in a realistic and achievable way.

We then guide you through the plan step by step and recommend support to ensure you feel confident putting your plan into practice, and you’re never left to navigate things alone.

Behavioural assessments and 90-day treatment plan £455 includes;

  • in-depth 3-hour behavioural assessment
